I have worked in science education as both a teacher and teacher educator. My teaching has been influenced by my own experiences as a student, teacher, mentor, and as a researcher with a great deal of in-classroom experience.
I strive to develop a classroom community where learners can experiment with new ideas and approaches, collaborate with their peers, and reflect upon their beliefs and experiences in order to develop and express a professional identity. I also believe teacher education has an important role to play in the development of teachers who espouse social justice in their teaching beliefs and practices. I emphasize a social justice orientation in my methods courses, stressing the importance of teachers adopting a student-centered approach that prioritizes the needs, interests, and experiences of students. |
